This is so true!!! Instagram has changed, and the evolution of creativity has everyone producing at a fast pace. We no longer take our time to create because we have to keep up with posting for the sake of an algorithm. It’s insane. Oh, and don’t get me started on how it impacts actors, lol😂. I digress. As always, thank you for sharing your words with us!

I am so late, but 100%. I’m sure it’s so frustrating for actors because many casting agents look at followers and socials when casting, which isn’t fair, but that’s what the industry has become. Thank you for reading!

Same! My biggest issue with Instagram really is that people don't actually *want* originality

And if you want it to work for you, it appears you're safer just doing what everyone else is doing, which really sucks.

But thank God for this app!

That’s a good point. People love trends and are always looking for the next trend to get on board with.

I enjoyed this read and found it insightful in an age where seemingly everyone is on Instagram. My Insta got hacked back in 2021 and it was a blessing in disguise. I took a major break from social media and now I love what I have found in writing and sharing on Substack. I feel so much more intentional with what I choose to post and what I want to say when I take up space. I knew Instagram was performative when I was using it, but after stepping away from it, it was a harsh realization that it was more freeing to be rid of the app.

Thank you for reading! Instagram is definitely performative, but it’s so admirable that you’ve been able to step away from it and put your energy into something more intentional like Substack.

I’d love to stay connected in this creative space qwand would be honored if you’d follow me back too. Let’s grow, write, and heal unapologetically—because this is what community looks like.

I definitely agree with this. It often feels like I am punished for sharing original content on Instagram but doing the same trends over and over is so boring! It doesn’t feel like art anymore. It feels like you have to do some version of a trend to even be seen. SMH.
